WHO SLEEP THE MOST?

By Josie Whitehead

Who Sleep the Most

Who sleeps the most?  Go on, have a guess -

Is it a tiger, a mouse or a cat?

It’s a small mouse-like mammal that flies round at night.

Did you guess?  It’s the little brown bat.*

With a glossy brown coat, wings that are brown,

With tiny sharp teeth and small ears,

They sleep when the rest of us go out to work

But at sunset you’ll see them appear.

You mustn’t fear bats for they don’t want to hurt.

They live with their families together.

They come out in the evening to look for their meals

      Especially in warm summer weather.

They dine upon insects that fly in the sky

And across the dark skies they all sweep.

In winter you’ll find them curled up in their homes,

Deep in their long winter’s sleep.
