TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF

By Josie Whitehead

Turning Over a New Leaf

I’ve been a little horror –

Oh, I’ve been a little beast,

But I think that all my badness

Has at last been all released.

I hid my father’s slippers

And I also hid Mum’s purse,

But the fact they’ve been so kind to me

    Has made it even worse.

I wouldn’t go to bed at night.

    I shouted and I yelled!

I bought three little stink bombs

   And goodness how they smelled!

I did all this, and things much worse

And I lost the backdoor key.

But it made me feel so very bad

When they were kind to me.

I told my Mum I’d brushed my teeth

And for sure this was a lie.

Then I said I’d done my homework,

    But I hadn’t even tried.

So when my birthday came around,

Who bought me a nice present?

Who made a cake and sang to me,

     To make my birthday pleasant?

Of course it was my family

For they do their best for me,

And being mean to such nice folk

     Is wrong, you must agree.

So I’m going to turn my wrongs to rights,

To bring them love and joy

And starting from tomorrow,

     They’ll discover this new boy.

                              (Is this really a promise?)
