Bradford lays claim to many things:
Think ‘film’ and what delight it brings:
Think: ‘National Museum of Media’ –
Yes, listed in Wikpedia!

‘City of Film!’ – We’re on the map!
Let’s give three cheers or should we clap?
UNESCO has bestowed this name –
And brought this city lots of fame!
Photography, film or animation?
Yes, welcome here – no hesitation!
They’ll turn you out with a degree,
That’s fit for anyone to see!

Think ‘painting’ – now think David Hockney!
Not from London - he’s no cockney!
Think of his works and think: ‘Saltaire’.
Go view his art, if time to spare.
Think ‘sheep’ and then think ‘woollen trade,'
It’s wool on which this town was made.
What brought the money? Woollen mills,
Their worsted looms are working still.

Delius
Frederick Theadore Albert Delius:
That’s right - another Bradford genius.
This fine, composing, Yorkshire lad
Was born in Bradford. Can’t be bad!
Think ‘Cartwright Hall’ – think works of art –
Art lovers? That’s the place to start.
Think J B Priestley – novels, plays!
Yes, Bradford’s where he spent his days.

St George's Hall Bradford
Think Bradford, and St George’s Hall,
Where concerts are enjoyed by all.
Whilst The Alhambra Theatre may be grand,
Think Yorkshire ale and good brass bands.

Think ‘curry capital’ for sure –
And head for many a restaurant door.
Think Bradford? No, now come and see,
And near to Bradford you’ll find me!

Not forgetting me - Josie
Copyright on all my poems
JOSIE: I am not 'Bradford' born and bred, but have lived and worked in Ilkley, which comes under Bradford, since 1987 which to date makes that 37 years of my life - surely a long time in my lifetime.
I have recently helped Bradford to become 'City of Culture' with my poetry. I think I may be the only poet ever to have had almost 400 poems published at once in five educational books in 2010 by AMS Educational - but, I have also been published in 4 other educational books.
Apart from book-publishing, you will find more than 1,500 poems on here and can read the story about how I came to have written all these poems HERE - https://www.josiespoems.com/about Other than this, it wasn't long after I'd started putting my poems onto my own website for the children of the world, that I received an email to say that children in 132 countries of the world had nominated me as 'Inspirational Children's Poet' - HERE: https://www.kidsfreesouls.com/josie-whitehead/
I am always sorry, therefore, when, although my website (and Google Analytics) tells me that my poems go out to 188 countries of the world, I seldom meet children in my own home town of Ilkley, where they have a month-long prestigious Literature Festival which runs yearly during October, who have never heard of me - - - but I remember the words of Jesus: 'No prophet is accepted in his hometown' - and so it must be sadly, although you'll see that I wrote these poems because the children in my local primary school (All Saints, Ilkley) asked me to do so, week after week and year after year. The children discovered a gift which I did not know I had I hope you enjoy the work I've done for you all. Josie
