JOSIE'S POEMS
Poems for Younger Children
By Josie Whitehead
Ten Tiny Tadpoles
Ten tiny tadpoles
Had a dreadful fate:
A trout came up and grabbed two
And then there were . . . eight.
Eight tiny tadpoles
Learning how to dive.
A kingfisher ate three of them
And then there were . . . five.
Five tiny tadpoles
Swimming fast and free.
A heron took two in his beak
And so this left only . . . three.
Three tiny tadpoles
Warming in the sun.
Their mummy ate them by mistake
And now there are . . . none.
