THE STUPID DONKEY

(Based on an Aesop's Fable)

Stupid Donkey (The)

A donkey found a lion’s skin
     Complete with lion’s head.
A hunter had forgotten it
     As he’d gone on ahead.

​

'Aha,' the donkey slyly thought:
     'I have the perfect plan.
By wearing this I’ll frighten all,
     Just as a lion can.'

​

Off went the donkey down the path,
     
A lion to all he met.
The way he looked caused all his friends
     To worry and to fret.

​

Their fear of lions made them run;
     They felt full of dismay.
The donkey laughed, as donkeys do,
     With a boisterous donkey’s bray.

​

A braying donkey's voice is loud;
     His friends stopped in their track.

They promptly turned from where they were
       And quickly hurried back.

​

At once he knew his game was up.
     They'd seen through his disguise
And a stupid donkey’s what they saw
     Through their *discerning eyes.

​
