THE SONG OF THE ANT

By Josie Whitehead

Song of the Ant

I’m toiling away in the boiling hot sun,

When all other insects are having some fun.

I don’t wear a shirt – not even some pants.

It’s a very hard life for we poor little ants.

I forage for food and I maintain the nest.

My work is so hard but I don’t get depressed.

I’m one of a family who’re learning our skills,

Digging our tunnels and building our hills.

From the break of the day until setting of sun,

We toil in the heat whilst there’s work to be done:

Defending our colonies and climbing up plants.

It’s an industrious life for we tired little ants.
