JOSIE'S POEMS

O N O M A T O P O E I A

(Sounds within words)

Meditating on hillside

S I L E N C E

(Onomatopoeia)

By Josie Whitehead

Silence

Shhh – Silence except for:

 The pitter-patter rain

And the barking of a dog.

 The purring of the cat

And the croaking of a frog.

Shhh – Silence except for:

The babbling of the brook

     And the buzzing of the bees;

The chirping of the birds

And the whispering of the trees.

Shhh – Silence except for:

The bleating of the sheep

And the rippling of the stream.

The snoring when we sleep.

And the noisy kids who scream.

S I L E N C E?  - Shhh

Is it something that I’ve missed

Or does it really not exist?
