SHALLOBALOO  SHALLOBALEE

By Josie Whitehead

Watercolor Bird 2
Shallobaloo Shallobalee

The sun shone brightly in the sky.
A blackbird quickly hurried by
And joined his friends high in the tree:
     Shallobaloo Shallobalee

Many more birds joined this throng
And altogether made a song -
And they sang from high up in the tree:
     Shallobaloo Shallobalee

A robin, thrush and jenny wren
Joined the other birds and then
They sang from high up in the tree:
     Shallobaloo Shallobalee

A blue-tit, greenfinch, big black crow -
The party seemed to grow and grow
And they sang from high up in the tree:
     Shallobaloo Shallobalee

A flash of lightning, thunder roared
And the birds sang not one single chord -
For storms alarm birds in the tree:
     Shallobaloo Shallobalee.

The rain beat down upon the ground
And from the tree there came no sound
But when it stopped, shhh - from the tree:
      Shallobaloo Shallobalee
