PRICK UP YOUR EARS

(Written in *onomatopoeia metre)

By Josie Whitehead

Prick Up Your Ears

Pitter patter, pitter patter
     Raindrops on my pane.
Rattle rumble, rattle rumble -
     That’s a passing train.

Slishy sloshy, slishy sloshy -
     A dishwasher’s soft beat
And clippy cloppy, clippy cloppy - - -
     Horseshoes on the street.

Chitter chatter, chitter chatter - - -
     Magpies in the tree,
And jibber jabber, jibber jabber,
     Don’t speak fast to me.

Tippy tappy, tippy tappy - - -
     My fingers on the keys,

Which brings another poem your way.
I hope that it will please.

Onomatopoeia:  This means the usage of words to describe any sound that is created by a living being, a non-living object or entity is termed onomatopoeia. In some cases, the sound itself is used as the word. For example, ‘meow’, clippy cloppy, crash and perhaps  . . sizzle frizzle.
