THE PALACE OF THE BEES

By Josie Whitehead

Palace of the Bees (The)

In a garden of West Yorkshire

Lived a great big bumble bee.

He buzzed around the flower beds

And he buzzed around the tree.

He buzzed around the compost bin

     And then he popped inside.

'Oh, what a gorgeous home for me!

     The perfect place to hide!'

He told his brothers of this place,

     And told his sisters too.

The ones he didn’t tell, of course,

     Were only me and you.

The summer sun shone on his bin

     But sometimes also rain,

But the bumble bee and all his friends

     Went in and out again.

They loved the place they called their home

     And had their families,

And now we’ve named our compost bin

     The Palace of the Bees.
