BLESSED ARE THE
PEACEMAKERS
By Josie Whitehead
The peacemakers were jailed last night
For despising acts of war,
But, by speaking out to all the world,
They’ve opened wide a door - - -
To human hearts across our world
Who plainly know the truth,
And condemning war is strongly felt
By all – especially youth.
And yet, the weapons soon arrived
And sirens blasted out,
And good folk, knowing what to do,
Sought shelter, without doubt.
They upped and fled, in millions,
With their children in their arms.
They dropped their tools, packed cases up,
Escaping fear and harm.
The trains were full, the roads were packed
As thousands fled in fear.
Our TV’s brought them to our homes:
We watched their plight in tears.
A dictator, seeking his success,
Was prepared to cast his dice,
But may this killer, in our world,
Be made to pay the price.

Note: 'Blessed Are the Peacemakers'. Matthew 5:9
In my Good News Bible it says: 'Happy are those who work for peace - or in some bibles: 'Blessed are the Peacemakers'. God will call them his children.' But it also says: 'Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!' And I ask: Is it being merciful to others to take weapons of destruction into another country and use it against the citizens of that country - especially the dreadful weapons of today? Josie
