NAUGHTY HAMISH-GAMES

By Josie Whitehead

Hamish was a cockatoo,

       Who lived at London Zoo,

But he escaped one summer’s day

     And quickly off he flew.

Perhaps he came to live near you.

     Look through your window now.

You’ll see him and you’ll hear him too.

If he’s sitting on that bough.

He rudely calls to human beings

And calls them naughty names –

And this is one of many things

     That Hamish does as games.

The local children know him well

And they like this little chap,

But one fine day what did he do?

He grabbed a boy’s school cap.

He flew off to a big oak tree

With the boy’s cap in his beak:

But then he shouted naughty words,

    And loudly did he speak.

The cap went flying through the air;

So the boy soon had it back

And that silly Hamish watched it go

And so missed his morning snack.

So: What was Hamish's morning snack?

Oh, he was going to chew bits from the cap which wouldn't have been good for him anyway, would it?
