Boy with Dog

MY DOG, SAM

By Josie Whitehead

My Dog Sam

My dog, who’s called Sam, is a big, playful pup

Who at six years of age, has never grown up.

Sam frighten a burglar?  You’ve got to be joking!

He’d roll on his back and enjoy all the stroking!

Sam bark at a postman?  Not likely for he

Is a friend to our Sammy, and also to me.

Sam chase away cats?  Yes, Ginger next door,

But chasing off others is rather a bore.

Sam beg for a biscuit?  Well, yes, he once tried

But fell over backwards – and oh how he cried!

Run after a ball?  Yes, but I should do that,

For whilst Sam is slim I’m a little bit fat.

So, do you have a dog?  Well what is he like? -

Though there are many, no two are alike.

If you’re looking for love, you’ll never get more

Than from your best friend, sat there on the floor.
