A LAMENTATION
ON LIFE'S SHORTNESS

By Josie Whitehead

Lamentation on Life's Shortness (A)

Just as this world keeps on turning in space
New children are born to the human race.
     They all find the time for both fighting and fun
     But all things soon end, as they all have begun.

Life passes quickly, there isn’t a doubt,
With harvests, famines, floods and drought;
     The winters of snow and the summers of sun
     But all things soon end, as they all have begun.

Use your time wisely - do the best that you can
And make the world happier for your fellow man,
     For your candle will flicker and life is then done
     For all things soon end, as they all have begun.
