IN THE BASKET

In the Basket

In the basket, net the ball -
The end of a long season’s haul.
     Running, throwing, jumping, cheers:
     We’ve shown our skill to all our peers.

​

They’ve seen our stamina and strength
To work the course both breadth and length.
     We’ve demonstrated power and skill,
     Both outer self and inner will.

​

But as that ball heads through the net
You’d think we’d finished, but we’ve yet
     To hold the cup within our hands:
     That’s been our goal, you’ll understand.

​
