Funny Poems for Children

Touch the spiders

?

IF I WERE A . . .

By Josie Whitehead

If I Were a . . .

If I were an elephant with a very long trunk

And four *whopping feet that went clunkety clunk,

I’d *stomp through the jungle with head in the trees

And, being an elephant, I’d do as I please.

If I were a minibeast – a spider or ant,

With very small feet I could climb up a plant.

You humans, so large, wouldn’t see me down there,

But, frightened of spiders?  Yes some are: beware!

If I were a lion, with a very loud roar,

I think I’d be someone you couldn’t ignore.

‘A nice tasty boy for my dinner?  Yes please,

And grilled, they are tasty, especially with cheese.’

‘I like girls for my lunch,’ the striped tiger replied –

‘But grilled and with cheese? Oh, I haven’t yet tried.

But girls can be tough and they squeal such a lot,

So cook them quite slowly and eat them whilst hot!’

If I were a girl, or perhaps were a boy,

I'd probably be one who'd love to annoy.

I’d play up all day and I’d tease and I’d fight –

Mmmm - But we grannies write poems,

so I hope that’s all right.
