I'VE MADE IT!

By Josie Whitehead

I've Made It

I was one out of thirteen

    Who's made it this year,

And . . .  tonight I've been flying,

    So send up a cheer.

For weeks upon weeks

    I have trotted around

Accompanied by mother,

     Both feet on the ground.

I grew adult plumage.

     I’m smart, I admit.

I’ve strengthened my wings

And shown off quite a bit.

Tonight, though, was special

    As I flew over town

And with Mum and with Dad

     On the river came down.

It was strange looking down

From high up in the sky,

And I wondered if children

     Saw me passing by.

What a day of excitement!

     I surely won’t sleep

For in the life of a duck  - - -

It’s been a very big leap!

   Quack quack quack quack!
