Use similes to enhance your writing

Similes:  A figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g. as brave as a lion ).  While both similes and metaphors are used to make comparisons, the difference between similes and metaphors comes down to a word. Similes use the words like or as to compare things.

C H A N G E

(A Simile Poem)

Change

CHANGEregenerating, like the four seasons of nature;
Transforming our world with growth and restfulness.

​

CHANGE - disruptive, like the road junction that tells us

To change direction along our path of life.

​

CHANGEheartless, like the flowing stream of life 
That carries us on its tide from birth to death .

​

CHANGEruthless, like the storms and hurricanes
Which smite our world with indifference.

​

CHANGEimmediate, like that very second in time
Which can reshape our world completely.

​

CHANGE – callous, like those harsh words you said 
Which broke my heart like shattering glass.

​

CHANGE – sombre, like the day which stole my parents 
And closed forever a love-window in my world.

​

CHANGE – guileful, like the gaming table
That deviously stole my money and my self-respect.

​

CHANGE – joyous,  like that happy meeting
With the person who can change your life forever.

​

CHANGE - continuous, like the ebb and flow of ocean tides
Which kiss the shores of each continent of our world.

​
