JOSIE'S POEMS

Use similes to enhance your writing

Similes:  A figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g. as brave as a lion ).  While both similes and metaphors are used to make comparisons, the difference between similes and metaphors comes down to a word. Similes use the words like or as to compare things.

(A Simile Poem)

By Josie Whitehead

Change

CHANGEregenerating, like the four seasons of nature;
Transforming our world with growth and restfulness.

CHANGE - disruptive, like the road junction that tells us

To change direction along our path of life.

CHANGEheartless, like the flowing stream of life
That carries us on its tide from birth to death .

CHANGEruthless, like the storms and hurricanes
Which smite our world with indifference.

CHANGEimmediate, like that very second in time
Which can reshape our world completely.

CHANGE – callous, like those harsh words you said
Which broke my heart like shattering glass.

CHANGE – sombre, like the day which stole my parents
And closed forever a love-window in my world.

CHANGE – guileful, like the gaming table
That deviously stole my money and my self-respect.

CHANGE – joyous,  like that happy meeting
With the person who can change your life forever.

CHANGE - continuous, like the ebb and flow of ocean tides
Which kiss the shores of each continent of our world.
