BE A FOOTBALL STAR

By Josie Whitehead

Be a Football Star

There’s a gentle giant on the pitch
    Who outshines all the rest.
His tips are here to help you all
    Perform your very best:

            TAILOR YOUR TRAINING

Training should be tailored
To your position on the pitch.
It’s you who redirects the ball
    Without a fault or glitch.

              WATCH YOUR BACK

Work to strengthen muscles
     But don’t forget your back.
It’s the muscles that you cannot see
    That help in the attack.

          THE POSTERIOR CHAIN

The muscles of the posterior chain -
     You’ll know the ones I mean -
Those tendons, ligaments and more
     Are felt but seldom seen.

              FILL UP YOUR TANK

Dehydration will not help you play.
   Drink well throughout the game.
Build strength with carbohydrates;
    They’re important just the same.

STRETCH OUT

You will need to flex those muscles

For they’ll keep you safe from harm.
There are quite a lot of stretching drills
      Designed for legs and arms.

NIMBLE IN MIND AND LIMB

Both physically and mentally
    Agility’s what you need;
You’ll run and jump, twist and turn –
And all of this at speed.

       POLISH YOUR CONFIDENCE

What follows all this training then
And what will help you play?
Well, polishing your confidence
Helps most on the big day.
